What do you want to see in a horror story and what do you not want to see? I am wanting to write a horror story and I need imput.

I know I'm late to the party with this reply, but maybe you're still working on your story...
As Marquis DeBlood and Evan said, Suspense is key. But I also think any great story needs at least one character that I care about. For me personally, Gore may be more essential in a movie than in something that I'm reading, but if you've got a good character and a suspenseful story, that'll keep me reading.
