The Misfits new album "The Devil's Rain"

It has been known for some time now that a new Misfits album has been in the works. First announced in 2006, many thing have been said about this album. Jerry has, on numerous occasions said it would be the heaviest and fastest album The Misfits had ever done, comparing it to Earth A.D and American Psycho.

In 2009, The release of the Land of the Dead single indicated that the new Misfits album really was in the works, despite what some naysayers had previously said. I have heard many things and read many articles about this new album (A race car driver doing backup vocals, Jerry's daughter singing, John Christ on lead guitar, a song about the wizard of oz), and a lot of it is plausible... except the wizard of oz stuff. A recent interview with Jerry reveals the name of the new album, and two of the songs on it. Click to see Jerry Only interview on ACtv
What I do know about the album is the name of seven songs that will be on the album.
  1. The Devil's Rain
  2. Dark Shadows
  3. The Monkey's Paw
  4. Science Fiction (Rocky Horror Cover)
  5. The Death Ray
  6. Were Do They Go
  7. Sleep Walking
Also Jerry's daughter is singing on the album, doing backup vocals on the song "Where do they go". For the rumors, I know that the one about John Christ is unlikely from what I've read on Misfits Central, with some of the original speculation coming from this interview with him. I've also heard that Jerry asked Erie Von to be on the album, but he declined. The race car driver rumor that originated on Misfits Central I think has some truth to it because a lot of the things mentioned on that forum turn out to be true. The actual thread has been deleted though probably due to all of the endless speculation going on. UPDATE: A day after I made this post an interview Jerry Only did with Eric Blair appeared on Youtube.

It mentions new song titles and confirms certain rumors, and mentions that Goat (now going to be called chupacabra) is replacing Robo do to his traveling visa making The Misfits have to cancel to many shows.

Yeah, I don't have any illusions about any of them being the greatest guy's on the planet. They all talk crap about each other and things like that and the myke hideous incident. I just think a lot of people get the stories wrong a lot of the time, like the doyle leaving the band business. I also frequently watch that video of jerry beating that guy with his bass and get a good laugh. I think jerry either got made cause he ripped the security dudes shirt or because he had it with the stupid kids on stage. I think Jerry can be a great guy if you get on his good side and don't work for him, but if you do work for him, he's probably one of the worst bosses in the world.

I think the new album will be pretty decent, but I could be wrong.

And as far as the clothing, Misfits are turning into Kiss with all the merch.

They even have Misfits incense now! That money thing I was talking about.

Jerry wants the band name to make money, not music. That's why he is retiring after this album.

Get the young audience hooked, so you can make money while retired.

I'm not saying money is bad, but making money off a name you technically didn't create is wrong.

Yeah, I'm not trying to take anything away from anyone. Like I said, it's just an opinion.

I take it more personally I guess, just because I know most of the guys personally that get shit on by Jerry and I don't think it's right.

Like Dr. Chud for example, this guy is a good friend of mine. When I lost all my stuff in a fire last year he called me when he heard about it and offered to help me out in anyway he could. Whether it be with my Misfits stuff or whatever. Then, people like Jerry and Michale Graves go and talk shit about him and say a bunch of shit it isn't right.

My stance is more from a personal point rather than a fan point. But, I don't like Jerry-Fits, but hell a few people I know do.

It's all a matter of your taste and what you like. It doesn't mean it takes the little bit of talent away from them. Like, I don't personally like Michale Graves, but he is a very talented singer.

I get your point Dr. Spookenstein, and that's what I was trying to get across between my  rants.

It not to deminish the music at all, it's just to prove most of what he says is bullshit and people don't see that. Does that mean they should stop listen because of it, that's there call. Personally, I don't like Jerry Only's version of the Misfits.

Doyle hasn't been on any Misfits album since Famous Monsters, technically Cuts from the Crypt.

The music has that basic punk sound, but it's not the Misfits I know.

My point is, if it's different, change the name.

I love the Misfits I am looking forward to hearing their new album.  Maybe a friend will play some songs.  Hint hint. LOl

My friend's little sister was the same way about the branding.  She had a Sex Pistols shirt on.  I mentioned that she was into the Sex Pistols and she just gave me that blank stare which you also mentioned.  My friend explained to me that she had no idea who I was talking about, she was just wearing the shirt because it was trendy.

Have you seen the AC/DC ones from Target with the bedazzled/rhinestone logo?  So sad, but I had to laugh.

I hate when my friends don't listen to certain bands because they said or did this and that, or don't like the way the band looks or acts and just tons of other shit that doesn't matter. All the while it's the fan that suffers for caring too much about stuff other than the actual music. I have enough of my own problems to deal with you know, I don't need someone else's bullshit hurting me too and keeping me from enjoying songs that I would like otherwise. I've found it's best to just take the music as its own entity apart from its creator.

There's lots of musicians who would get the nasty end of my switchblade if I ever ran into them, but that doesn't stop me from listening to their songs that I like. Picture one of them balled up on the ground in a dark alley, I'm standing over them with a bloody knife and listening to their music on my ipod. "Great song biotch!"

Anyway, if the new Misfits album has good songs then awesome, more for me to enjoy. If not, then whatever. I'm really curious as to how it's going to sound without Doyle on guitar though. I haven't liked anything since the 50's covers, but I'm still going to give the album a chance. I love music and I don't want to miss out on something I might like.

There is one thing I have to bitch about though, it's the fact that the Misfits and the crimson ghost skull have become some sort of clothing line fashion trend thing. There are people wearing Misfits clothing and shoes and belts and badges and sweatbands who have never heard of the band or the crimson ghost movie. They just think it's a brand! You try to talk to them about the Misfits and they get  a dumbass blank stare on their face. Then you stab them.

Wow, that's pathetic.  I hadn't seen this one.  Thanks for posting it.

The saddest part is the guy wasn't even fighting the security guard, it looked more like he fell and pulled the guy (and his shirt) with him.  Their early shows were classic stage diving/pitting/total chaos.  This was one or two guys at a time.  Next time he plays that city I'll be he doesn't get half the number of people coming to the show.
